Upside to Anger (2005)
My rating: 7/10
This is a tough movie to rate. I liked it, but I can’t really give you a good idea of what it was all about. It was a relationship movie but it seemed it skirted along just touching the relationships of a Mom (Joan Allen), her four girls and her love interest (Kevin Costner). It didn’t really get deep enough. It almost did. But it didn’t. It is a character driven movie with no plot but then there was a plot twist.
See what I mean? A tough movie to like, yet a movie you can like only because Joan Allen is excellent and Kevin Costner was very… I can’t find the words. Nice? Kevin Costner was nice? That’s all I could think of.
Costner played an ex-baseball star. This is his fourth, if not more, movie where he was a baseball player. Bull Durham, Field of Dreams (kinda), For the Love of the Game and this.
I liked the movie because of the relationships. I didn’t like the movie because it tried but really didn’t get moving on the relationships. If it did, it could have gotten deeper and more dramatic. To be honest, I’m not sure if this movie knew what it was. A romantic dramedy, or a just a drama.
