I DID IT! I ran my first 3 miles since 1993! I can't believe how much weight training has helped me in my running. After two weeks of 1 to 2 miles I finally decided to go 3 miles on a treadmill. At 2.5 miles I was feeling it. I was amazed that up until then my breathing was not labored and my legs were fine. I pushed my pace the last half and nearly got to 33 minutes flat!
After that I did an hour of weight training.
Leg extensions
Hamstring curls
Back assisted pulldowns
Tricep assisted dips
Triceps Pulley pushdowns
Biceps straight bar standing curls
Football training (run in place for 5 seconds, drop and one pushup, then run in place for 5 sec, etc. - for 30 seconds)
60 crunches
I was able to complete my DAY TWO workout schedule after a three mile run!
The last time I did three miles was actually a five mile run I had to do in training camp back in 1993 with the Anaheim Bullfrogs of the RHI. I labored then as running has NEVER been my forte. But this 3 miles seemed like a breeze - with an easy 11 minute pace of course. I need to do this every day till next Sunday because I'm running in a 5K at the Griffith Park 5th Annual LA Run/Walk event. It's the "Say No To Drugs Race". My first ever organized race. 3 miles really doesn't seem like a problem.
The gym is awsome on a friday night. Nobody is there!
I'm tired!
