Great Ideas

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with a great idea!

Here's how it normally plays out.

Hmmm... I think I'll write a daily cartoon like "Peanuts" or "Calvin & Hobbes" or "Garfield". Yeah. But I don't think I have enough information for a daily cartoon so maybe a weekly one. For Sunday. But man, that's a lot of pressure to come up with a strip every Sunday. That's like three hundred sixty five strips a year! What if I go on vacation or something? Maybe there's a monthly publication I can submit to. A magazine. Yeah, I think I can do one a month. Twelve a year. That's not bad. I can do that.

But I can't draw.

Damn.

Yes. Sometimes I have great ideas.

But then sometimes they aren't that great.

CARTOON IDEA
TITLE: "GREAT IDEA"
PANEL 1: MAN MAKES COFFEE. It's 2:01 AM.
THOUGHT BUBBLE: WHAT A GREAT IDEA. I'LL WRITE A DAILY CARTOON LIKE "PEANUTS" OR "CALVIN & HOBBES" OR "GARFIELD".

PANEL 2: CLOCK READS 2:05 AM. A MAN SITS AT A DESK SIPPING COFFEE. HE LOOKS STRESSED.
THOUGHT BUBBLE: THERE'S TOO MUCH PRESSURE FOR A DAILY. MAYBE JUST FOR SUNDAYS. MAYBE A MONTHLY. I CAN DO ONE A MONTH. TWELVE A YEAR. THAT'S NOT BAD. I CAN DO THAT.

PANEL 3: CLOCK READS 2:05 AM. MAN SCRIBBLES AWKWARD STICK FIGURES ON A PIECE OF PAPER.
THOUGHT BUBBLE: BUT I CAN'T DRAW.

PANEL 4: MAN IS IN BED. CLOCK READS 2:06 AM.
THOUGHT BUBBLE: WHAT A STUPID IDEA.
