For any 'great idea' to become 'great' it needs to come to fruition. For it to come to fruition work needs to be done. And work is what is being done.
For years I've wanted to write a syndicated cartoon. But I never wrote anything down. Until now.
I've written about twenty or so cartoons based on a writer's life - aptly named, "The Hungry Hungry Screenwriter". A slice of life of the all too busy screenwriter who desperately wants to break into the business.
I'm not a cartoonist so it would be harder to develop a cartoon don't you think? So I asked my production partner, who is an artist, to try his hand at illustration and cartooning. Although he liked what I wrote, he thought it'd be a better idea to find someone willing to take on a daunting task.
But it can't just be anyone, I thought. It has to be someone I trust. Someone who can illustrate and possible give input to story, dialogue and ideas. But mainly, I need an artist and not a writer. A cartooning team made cultishly popular by Jason Lee & Ben Affleck in the movie "Chasing Amy". Alot of comic books do have separate writers and artists, but more often it is a single writer/artist who develops cartoons.
So I talked to my cousin. An artist. And and artist who coincidently has wanted to do the same thing I've wanted to do for several years but can't write. I'll see what he has can come up with based on my characters and my simple (and sometimes dry) sense of humor.
This could be a match made in comic strip heaven!
I'll keep you posted.
