Now we can say DePodesta is an idiot!

I've reserved my opinion on DePodesta till AFTER the trading deadline. But now I can make a decision and share my thoughts on DePodesta's Dodgers.

The Dodgers on Tuesday acquired outfielder Jose Cruz Jr. from the Boston Red Sox for a Minor League player to be named, probably later this week.

Quote: "Frankly, the last two years we've had good reports on him and good numbers," said DePodesta, who was with the Dodgers' Jacksonville affiliate. "We haven't seen any downturn of play. He's a real good fit for us."

WHAT THE F**K!?!?!?

DePodesta has gone through TWO trading deadlines and nearly TWO full years with the Dodgers. He's managed to upset fans, make ill advised moves despite the current performance of trailers dealt and purchased, and finally, did NOT get a deal done this past trading deadline but picked up Jose Cruz Jr.

Let's reflect back on what Jose Cruz has done LATELY...

He was traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Red Sox on July 30 for two Minor Leaguers, went 3-for-12, then was designated for assignment. With the Diamondbacks, he hit .213 with 12 home runs.

Now lets look at what has happend the last two years which mr. DePodesta has claimed as 'good reports'...

2003 - .250 BA with 20 HRs and 68 RBIs.
2004 - .242 BA with 21 HRs and 78 RBIs.

He is a career .248 hitter batting .213 this year in 64 games.

"We haven't seen any downturn of play. He's a real good fit for us."

I love this quote. I LOVE IT! Mr. Computer isn't looking at his spreadsheet very well.

2000 - .242 BA
2001 - .274 BA
2002 - .245 BA
2003 - .250 BA
2004 - .242 BA
2005 - .215 BA (three teams combined)

Uh... My graph shows a DRASTIC downturn of play.

But I'll give Depodesta one thing... Compared to the offensive performance of the Dodgers this year and Cruz' production, yes, he's a real good fit. Mediocre and unproductive.

I won't go into what Tracy said... but he did say a ton of good things about Cruz Jrs' dad... Unfortunately, it was JUNIOR that DePodesta traded for and not his dad.

Another note... Brazoban is NOT a closer as I've been saying for weeks. A Closer would have strengthend a potentially strong bullpen which would have taken more strain off the offense. Brazoban as a set-up, yes... This would shorten up the game so much more and the Dodgers would be a game or two out of 1st if they had a legitimate closer.

I'm done.

I root for the team but realize there's not much of a team out there to root for because of DePodesta. If Tracy can get this bunch of guys back into playoff contention, the man is a God.
